How Industry 4.0 changes the world

19 April, 2018 News

There are few who claim that the effects of the 4th Industrial Revolution will be stronger than the cumulative effects of the previous three. The first signs of cataclysmic changes are already noticeable, as in the past 3-4 years we have tangible examples of unprecedented evolution. The early stages of the interconnection of machines with information systems and the transition to full digitilization of physical processes are at the heart of change, signalling the opportunities that have opened up and the challenges that humanity will face in the foreseeable future.

Ioannis Soldatos, Professor at the Athens Information Technology and Athens Tech College, will highlight the major applications of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the digital technologies that support them, such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Enhanced Reality (Augmented Reality). In addition, he will present to the audience of the Athens Science Festival some of the most indicative cases where Industry 4.0 is used, in areas such as industrial automation, preventive maintenance and supply chain management.

Ioannis Soldatos has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and he is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, while he was Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He has been a leader in the development of over 50 IT and telecommunications projects in the fields of industrial production, supply chain, health and energy.
