George Paxinos | Know Thyself

13 February, 2018

Nevertheless, a big part of the world we strive to make sense of, lives inside of us and is in fact our very own brain. George Paxinos, the first scientist to map this extremely complex organ tried to shed light upon who we really are and to convince us that there is no such thing as a soul. “The mind is nothing more than the energy of the brain”, underlined during his talk titled “Know Thyself” at the Athens Science Festival 2017.

George Paxinos is a professor at the University of New South Wales and the Neuroscience Research Australia in Sydney. He mapped the brain and the spinal cord. He discovered 91 nuclei (regions) in the central nervous system. Most scientists who work on the relation between the human brain and diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and schizophrenia or animals models of these diseases use his atlases.
