City soundscapes

The aim of this workshop is to initiate participants to the process of perceiving the physical and social environment through sound. Specifically, participants are introduced to the concept of soundscape and, thereby, to the observation and understanding of the social and cultural meanings that sounds embody in a public. The Gazi neighbourhood offers an excellent case study for the workshop of urban soundscapes due to the radical transformations it has undergone in recent years, both in the composition of its residents and in its character. The workshop consists of three stages and draws upon a simplified version of the methodology of the research project ‘Learning culture through city soundscapes’.

Brain facebook: Circuits and behavior

In what way are the brain circuits “linked” to our behavior?
In what way are the cells “connected” when we learn something?
What type of behavior do specific brain networks follow?

During this interactive workshop we will give answers to the above and other questions regarding the relationship between brain circuits and behavior. The workshop participants will have the opportunity to play an active role not only in the discrete brain circuits activation involved in specific behaviors such as perception, emotion recognition, memory, learning, but also in the most current methods for the investigation of biological bases of behavior.

Gamification in the Classroom

The fastest way to learn something is by playing and enjoying yourself. Getting gamification techniques in the classroom gives a higher level of interaction and participation from the students. But how can we teach by playing? And how can digital media help in this task?
The very talented teacher Cliff Parry who lives and teaches in Greece since 1986 and Sofia Papadimitriou, an expert in digital media in teaching, are talking about gamification in the classroom. Moreover, the Green Agents programme is presented by Anna Christodoulou and Julie Kyriazi as a good practice. Green Agents is an innovative programme for energy reduction that combines gamification and digital media and has been applied this year in six primary schools in Athens.
