Build a buoy

Join us to experience the construction of marking buoys and their testing into a small pool, the conversion of a marking buoy into an observation buoy equipped with thermometers and sensors measuring the water’s and air’s quality, followed by data recordings. Students will think about an object’s gravity center and buoyancy, materials density and the challenges faced when designing devices for ocean use, the power supply of a buoy, the access to the data a buoy collects, the significance of measuring the air’s and water’s temperature and the human’s role in ecosystem wellness, as well as the total cost.
