Drug discovery from bugs

Protein misfolding is a common molecular feature for many devastating human diseases, such as
Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, type 2 diabetes and others. Toward increasing the
effectiveness of early-stage drug discovery for these conditions, we have developed engineered
microbes that function as an autonomous living discovery platform for new drugs against protein
misfolding diseases. We will discuss the basic features of this technology and the steps that we have
taken to pursue the commercialization of the molecules-putative drugs we have discovered.
