Stephanos Handakas: | Subfertility, subfecundity, and demographic

This presentation highlights the emerging significant role of technology in the field of fertility and assisted reproduction, as well as the pressing demographic issues facing Greece. It also discusses how initiatives within civil society, such as the example of HOPEgenesis (hopegenesis.org), offer important solutions at both local and national levels in our country.

Stephanos Handakas: Professor of Gynecology Chairman BOD, Mitera Hospital

Stefanos Chandakas is an obstetrician-gynecologist, endoscopic reproductive surgeon, Associate Professor at the School of Medicine of the University of Nicosia, offering his experience in Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Gynecological Surgery.

He is the chairman of the Board of Directors of Mitera Hospital, Hellenic Healthcare Group.

He was a member of the National Sailing Team for 11 years and participated in the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996, while today he is the Vice-President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee.

For the past 20 years he has been engaged in various philanthropic activities, initially with his participation in Omada Aigaiou NPO for the provision of medical and supportive assistance to the remote islands of the Aegean Sea. In 2015, he founded HOPEgenesis NPO, which is tackling with the demographic deadlock and the socioeconomic aspects of it and was awarded the best NGO for 2018 in Greece by the European Union.
