Can students isolate their own DNA? Have they ever seen what a real neuron looks like under a microscope? Have they seen the miraculous zebrafish? These and many more discoveries await students of all ages at the ASF23, where they will be introduced to the magical world of biology and neuroscience.

During the scheduled school visits at the Athens Science Festival 2023, students will participate in impressive workshops and interactive exhibitions that promise to captivate them.

During the workshops for kids, young visitors will gain a new understanding of the amazing world of DNA as they see it… up close! 

The Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) presents “BioSTEΜ: Embark on a DNA adventure”, an action from the Laboratory of Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy of the University of Patras. In this workshop, students of all ages will be introduced to molecular biology techniques and will get the opportunity to isolate DNA.

The Education Committee of the Hellenic Neuropsychological Society invites young explorers to the activity “The Marvelous World of the Brain“. Through exciting activities and games, children will embark on a journey through the brain’s secret pathways and discover how memory, emotions, and thinking work!

The iGEM Athens team invites children aged 7-12 to the “DNA Delights” workshop, where they can play with the world of candy DNA, design their own double helix from sweets, and even extract genetic material from their saliva!

At the interactive exhibition, we will explore whether neuroscience can become more appealing than we can imagine.

The Institute of Biomedical Research of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA) presents the “Zebrafish and the secrets of regeneration” exhibition. Come and see the small zebrafish, a creature capable of regenerating its tail, heart, and brain after injuries and is extremely useful in research, offering solutions to several medical questions.

The Neuroholics team from the International Postgraduate Program in Neuroscience at the Department of Biology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens invites you on a journey into the nervous system. In the exhibition “Exploring the Brain”, we will observe real neurons under a microscope and discover what brain organoids are.
