Stand Up Science

18 September, 2023 News

Do scientists have a sense of humor? Is it possible to grasp scientific topics, while having a smile on our face? How can we contribute to making science more accessible to the general public?

The team of Science Reactors provides unique answers to those questions on-stage with a witty and unconventional style! The idea originated from Eleni Grammatikopoulou, who has dedicated 30 years of work to Science Communication. In 2014, she aimed to showcase an alternative aspect of science by establishing the innovative Science Reactors team.

Talented young scientists from diverse scientific backgrounds present science in a different way through Stand Up Science (performances inspired by stand-up comedy) and Science on Stage (scientific theater)!

Recently, they adapted their scripts in order to make science more appealing to young audiences, for the first time, creating the action Stand Up Science kids.

At ASF23, they will present their new Stand up Face to Face Science, adapted to the festival’s theme. Endowed with talent in Science Communication, but primarily driven by a passion for science itself, Science Reactors will get on the stage of Athens Science Festival and make challenging scientific concepts understandable through stories of everyday life. Stories filled with humor, without it becoming the sole purpose of the performance.

The participants are:

Konstantinos Peristeris (Gynecologist), Konstantinos Antonaropoulos (Department of Philosophy, NKUA), who will also be the presenters. Alexandros Sourtzis (Spatial planner/Urban planner), Polyxeni Spiliopoulou (School of Education and Sport Science/Musician), Stavros Dimitrakoudis (Astrophysicist), Nikos Papadimitriou (Chemical/Mechanical Engineer), Makis Zoidakis (Biologist)
