The largest and longest-running science and technology festival returns to Technopolis City of Athens from April 16th to 21st, 2024, featuring activities for children of all ages.
If you’re looking to spend an exciting six days filled with STEAM – that is, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics – alongside your children, we’re delighted to announce that the Athens Science Festival is back: From April 16th to 21st, 2024, Technopolis City of Athens will become the hub of the country’s biggest and longest-standing science and technology festival, with activities for children of all ages.
“Stay Connected” & “Save the Planet”
It’s a fact that Generation A kids were born “connected”: Born after 2010, they grew up considering digital technology a given. But what is their perception of its past and future? Explore together the “Connected” exhibition designed by the NOESIS Science Center and Technology Museum and discover together the history of computers and connectivity.
On the other hand, for those who grew up with classic electronic games like Space Invaders and Asteroids, the interactive game “Save the planet!” presents an excellent challenge. Created by Inity Playground, a Czech organization that develops platforms for creative audiovisual research, the game offers a contemporary gaming experience with an emphasis on saving the planet. This means taking a step back and allowing your children to take the lead, collaborating to keep the planet safe from threats of all kinds and sizes. With nothing but a ball, they will form the first line of defense against giant asteroids and alien invaders in an enjoyable virtual reality battle.
STEM Labs and Imagination
At Athens Science Festival 2024, you’ll find STEM labs for children of all ages: The STEM4Equality program brings to the festival the “ASF Toddlers Run for STEM” an educational program for preschool children based on interaction, play, and critical thinking. Additionally, “SilverSTEM Lab” is a workshop that brings toddlers and the older generation together through science.
For older children, imaginative and curious about the world around us, the interactive game “Little Biologists Save the Environment!” will introduce them to the colorful world of Biology guided by a butterfly! Meanwhile, “Actions and Reactions” for elementary students explore the magical world of Chemistry by conducting simple experiments with everyday materials.
Adventure, Art, and Technology
How does literature relate to Medicine? In the case of “Nano-Odyssey” they converge in an interactive game where Penelope is besieged by “cancer-suitors.” Children must help Odysseus equip himself with liposome technology to help Penelope free herself from aggressive “cancer-suitors” and learn more about the ingenious organisms that make up the world of Biology.
“The Dao Fighters: A Solar Tea Case!” is a scientific adventure for “apprentice heroes” called to defend the planet’s balance. Guided by the Chinese teacher Sifu, children must counteract climate change with Tai Chi moves, plenty of bamboo, an experiment, and a song!
Art meets photography and dance in the “Painting with Light” workshop. Children are invited to dance, move, and roll in any way they can think of, setting different objects in motion. They will then capture the trajectories of their movements in photographs!
