Exploring Music Creation with Artificial Intelligence: A Workshop for Educators at Ionian University

10 April, 2024 News

Imagine creating music without traditional instruments, using everyday items like your coffee cup, a pencil, or anything else you have on hand. This is the premise of the “Exploring Music Creation with Artificial Intelligence” workshop organized by Ionian University and Island Sounds. This workshop highlights the innovative approach to music education, showing that entertainment tools can dramatically transform learning processes.

The workshop showcases the work of Dimitrios Smailis, a researcher at the Ionian University’s Department of Digital Media and Communication. Mr. Smailis’s research seeks ways to rejuvenate students’ interest in music by incorporating artificial intelligence into the learning process. The research aims are ambitious, seeking to promote more active student participation in music, thereby enhancing their commitment and self-efficacy. Additionally, by employing new means of interaction with the machine, the project aims to boost students’ creativity and interaction, even before they develop necessary musical skills.

This research emphasizes the usefulness of technology in environments lacking infrastructure, where access to musical instruments is limited, and in teaching music to individuals unfamiliar with musical instruments.

This workshop is a valuable opportunity for educators looking to enrich their teaching methods by integrating artificial intelligence into music education.
