A new ally in wound healing

27 March, 2018 News

Drawing inspiration from Star Trek and expertise from the strong experience of its research team, ColdPlasmaTech opens up new ways of therapeutic possibilities. The revolutionary bandage they have developed offers the possibility to heal chronic wounds and repair life-threatening skin lesions. This method uses a special form of potent cold plasma, which even destroys multidrug-resistant bacteria and at the same time mobilizes the self-healing abilities of the human body.

Carsten Mahrenholz, co-founder and CEO of the German company ColdPlasmaTech, will talk about his vision and applications to many patients with severe injuries and wounds that are not healing easily through this innovative method. This idea of cold plasma has attracted the interest of many international organisations and agencies. In 2014 and for three consecutive years, ColdPlasmaTech emerged in Germany’s top emerging businesses, and it has been honoured by numerous awards. Mahrenholz has been named the “Entrepreneur of the Year” and received his award at the Hall of Fame in 2016, while his contribution has been recognised through many other distinctions in Germany and the rest of the world.

Mahrenholz’s unconventional approach and the exploitation of innovative technology as a therapeutic possibility are not the only reasons to attend his talk at the Athens Science Festival. Mahrenholz will also discuss a broad range of additional applications offered by plasma drugs, which “disrupt” a well-established market, and offer effective solutions to specific medical problems at a fraction of the cost. We suspect that there will also be plenty of references to Star Trek during his presentation, but let’s just wait for him to reveal all he has to say.

Following his doctorate in biochemistry at the University of Berlin, Carsten Mahrenholz went on completing his MBA studies at the University of Cambridge. He then worked as a consultant for major companies and research centres, covering a broad range of disciplines: from protein function and biochemistry to evolutionary biology and the elimination of influenza virus.
